Usually identified with painful blisters and sores in the genital and mouth area, herpes is the name given to a group of viruses that cause these symptoms and is commonly classified as a sexually transmitted disease (STD).
There are two kinds of Herpes viruses that are prevalent.
The herpes simplex virus is one kind of herpes that causes cold sores around and on the genital areas and around the mouth. Another type of herpes, called herpes zoster causes shingles and chickenpox.
